Brad Meier - 1000th NHL Game

Referee Meier will celebrate this milestone tonight in Calgary

Published: October 13, 2015

Tonight in Calgary, referee Brad Meier will be celebrating his 1,000th Regular Season NHL Game at the Scotiabank Saddledome when the St.Louis Blues will be visiting the Calgary Flames. Tonight’s game is actually regular season game #1,005 for Meier as he worked his official 1,000th game last season on April 9th2014 in Vancouver. Due to the tight races for the playoffs and the extreme intensity of the last few weeks of the NHL season, Meier decided to celebrate this milestone early this season rather than in the “crunch” time therefore avoiding to be a distraction for the game. Referee Joannette and referee Peel also followed Meier in this initiative and will also both celebrate their milestone in the next few weeks.

Stepping on the ice to officiate your first NHL game is a dream come true for any aspiring official. Brad lived that dream on October 23rd 1999, when the Carolina Hurricanes played the Pittsburgh Penguins at the old Igloo. Tonight October 13th 2015, 16 years after his first game, Brad will celebrate his 1,000th NHL game with family and friends. Having the privilege of working this special assignment with Brad will be Referee Tom Kowal and Linemen Darren Gibbs and Mark Wheler.

The NHLOA would like to congratulate Brad on this achievement and wish him many more.
