NHLOA ALUMNI DAN SCHACHTE TO BE INDUCTED IN THE MADISON, WI SPORTS HALL OF FAME.
 
This summer will also be a special one for another NHLOA alumni as retired linesman Dan Schachte will be inducted into the Madison Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame. Schachte will be the third alumni this summer to become a Hall of Famer after former linesman Brad Lazarowich and former referee Rob Martell got their call earlier this year. The ceremony will take place on June 7th at the Monona Terrace Banquet Hall in Madison.
 
Schachte was a linesman in the NHL for 30 years and became the first American born official to work more than 2,000 games. He left the ice in the spring of 2012 with a final count of 2,009 NHL Regular Season Games and an impressive 221 NHL Playoffs Games. His career was nothing shy than a very successful one as he managed to be selected to work the Stanley Cup Finals five times during his tenure (’97,’98,’00,’01 & ’02). He also served as a linesman in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, which included the Bronze Medal Game.
 
Off the ice, Schachte was a well respected member among the NHLOA as he served on the Discipline Committee from 2002 to 2010. He was also part of the NHLOA executive board in 1991-1992 a voted position by the membership.
 
Schachte just recently finished his fifth season as the Coordinator of Officials for one of the top NCAA Division 1 college hockey conference with Hockey East. He also served as an Officiating Supervisor for USA Hockey since 2011, mentoring many of the top young officials in the United States with instruction and training at camps around the country. Schachte who was a former Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and United States Hockey League (USHL) referee for two years (1980-1982), co-founded the Wisconsin Elite Hockey League (WEHL) back in 2006.
