Kelly Sutherland - 1000th NHL Game

Referee Sutherland to celebrate this milestone tonight in Washington

Published: October 22, 2016

Tonight in Washington, referee Kelly Sutherland will be celebrating his 1,000th NHL Regular Season Game at the Verizon Center when the New York Rangers visit the Washington Capitals. Tonight’s game is actually regular season game #1,011 for Sutherland as he worked his official 1,000th game last season on March 24th in Boston. Due to the tight races for the playoffs and the extreme intensity of the last few weeks of the NHL season, Sutherland decided to celebrate his milestone early this season rather than in the “crunch” time therefore avoiding any distraction for the game.

Entering his 16th year of service with the National Hockey League this year, the Richmond B.C. native will be celebrating this important milestone where he now calls home: Washington D.C.

Having the privilege of working this special assignment with Sutherland will be Referee Tim Peel and Linesmen Derek Amell and Brad Kovachik.

The NHLOA would like to congratulate Kelly Sutherland on this outstanding achievement.
